By: Cherica Lorenze Padullo Let me explain to you what Korea.net Honorary Reporters program is all about and how I became an Honorary Reporter for the year 2021. Before that, what is Korea.net? Korea.net  is a multilingual government portal of the Korean government that spreads information related to Korea to millions of readers around the world and it caters 9 languages: English, Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Arabic, and Vietnamese. Korea.net is also handled by the Korean Culture and Information Service or KOCIS which is an affiliate of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Now, what is the Korea.net Honorary Reporters Program? This program is created for like-minded individuals who have the interest, passion, and love for Korea in different aspects. For this program, KOCIS undergoes an annual recruitment looking for Korea lovers who would want to be an Honorary Reporter for Korea.net. KOCIS basically seeks thousands of foreign nationals every ye

Where Did the Korean Language Take Me?

By: Cherica Lorenze Padullo        The immense popularity of K-Pop and Korean dramas seems to be relentlessly growing. There has been no age and gender boundaries when it comes to adoring South Korea’s entertainment. With the rising interest that people from all over the world invest in the so-called Hallyu wave, Korea lovers also could not resist falling in love with the Korean language. Also, I must say that I am one of these people who could no longer take themselves away from the charm of the Korean language.      Looking back at the very first time that I was introduced with Hangeul last 2014, seeing the Korean alphabet made me so curious that it gave me a strange yet enticing feeling. Never have I thought that I would give myself time to learn how to write and read the Korean alphabet at 15 years old. Now, I am so proud of myself that even though I still do not speak Korean just like how native Koreans speak, I can say that I have already come a long way.      I can now

Filipino TikTokers Making Korean-related Contents: An Interview

Let me show you some of the Filipinos who abruptly gained thousands of followers and millions of likes on TikTok because of their love, passion, interest in Korea and most especially to the Korean language. I requested Korean-related content creators Ben-Hur and Mhay for a very short interview and I got to ask them questions! It is really an honor to be receiving responses from them and I am so excited to share their stories to our Korea.net readers and Korean language learners not just from the Philippines, but also from around the world. Now, let’s get to know them! Ben-Hur Justine Soriano Misola  is a 24-year-old Filipino from Antipolo City, Rizal, Philippines.  As a TikToker [ @benhurmisolaa ], Ben-Hur uploads videos of his skits in Korean. His first video that got 1.4 million views was a trend that he tried while speaking in Korean during the end of February 2021. Receiving such huge support from a lot of Korean language learners, he then uploaded another content showing his

A Hallyu Fan Becoming an Honorary Reporter: An Induction Ceremony 2021 Reflection

Last May 20, 2021 was the most awaited day for Korea.net Honorary Reporters and K-influencers, most especially to the first time newly appointed Honorary Reporters like me. Funny how I noted it on my calendar so I could not forget to attend the live streaming of the Induction Ceremony. But to my dismay, I completely lost the time and memorized the wrong time schedule, making me unable to attend on the exact day. Brushing off the worries away, I waited for the replay of the online Induction Ceremony that was uploaded on YouTube and watched it to my heart's content. I have personally discovered  Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS)’s Honorary Reporters Program  last 2018. That time, I was not fully aware of how it was to become an HR but I tried to apply anyway. Unfortunately, I was not accepted. On 2019, I reminded myself again to apply but I was not able to. On 2020, I lost my confidence and drive to apply because I thought I could not handle the responsibility and the
